Raleigh the No. 2 Place in the U.S. to Work for a Small Business

When it comes to working for a small company, Raleigh is the second best place in the country to be.

WalletHub, a personal finance social media network, released Wednesday its 2015 Best and Worst Cities to Work for a Small Business. Along with being No. 2 overall on the list, North Carolina’s capital also ranked No. 3 for its “economic environment” and No.10 for its “small business environment.”

Also in the state, Charlotte-Concord-Gastonia ranked No. 1 overall with a “small business environment” rank of 1 and an “economic environment” rank of 18; Winston-Salem ranked No. 55 overall; Greensboro-High Point ranked 62 and also ranked No. 4 in “highest net small-business job growth.”

According to the U.S. Small Business Administration, 99.7 percent of all U.S. employer firms are small companies that employ nearly 49 percent of the private workforce.

The WalletHub report analyzed the small-business environment of 100 of the most populated metro areas using metrics that include job growth, the number of small firms in that area, small-business employee earnings and industry variety.
